Pitbull Mix For Adoption in Texas

Hi, My Name is Koko!

I am a very pretty, red and white Pitbull Terrier mix. I am just 18 months old, spayed, up to date on my shots, and very healthy. I weigh 50 pounds. I get along well with other dogs.

I am looking for a loving, forever home with a single, couple or family with lots of time to spend with me. I am a very loving dog and am very well behaved in the home. I am house trained and calm, although I do love to play and need plenty of exercise.

My owners rescued me from a local shelter, where I had been placed as a stray. I was in bad shape and very underweight. They took me in and helped me to be a very healthy dog, well trained and well behaved. Since they are senior citizens and have 2 other dogs in the home, they need to find me a loving home, which was their intent when they rescued me.

I am a really smart, devoted and loving dog. I will make a wonderful companion. Please offer me a home today. I will amaze you with how intelligent, beautiful and affectionate I am. I can’t wait to meet you.

Koko’s Personality

I got Koko out of the Mesquite tx animal shelter last April because she was in bad condition, very underweight and had mange. I adopted her with the intent of getting her rehabilitated and finding her a permanent home. I already had 2 Sharpeis, one of which is 7 and the other is 2. Three dogs is just too much for my wife and I to handle.
Once she knows you, Koko is extremely affectionate and playful. She can be a little bit shy at first and a little scared of strangers. She loves to go for walks, plays tug with a rope, likes to give and receive hugs and kisses. She is spoiled rotten and likes to share in whatever her people are eating. She likes to play with other dogs, but the playing can be a little rough sometimes. She is a wonderful companion and enjoys just being with you. Koko was easy to house train and learns everything quickly. She is very food motivated and will do anything for a treat. In the time we have had Koko, we have never struck her to discipline her. She knows when we are disappointed in something she did and you can see the remorse in her eyes.

Koko’s Current Home Environment

We have 2 other dogs, and one of them is aggressive toward other dogs, including her housemates sometimes. They like to play with Koko, and that is part of our problem. They are constantly wanting to play and it can be very disruptive. When Koko is alone in the house without the other dogs around, she is an absolute angel. My wife and I are a little bit too old to be able to handle the constant attention needed by three dogs. Koko sleeps in a crate at night and when we go out. She suffers from occasional separation anxiety, but nothing to serious. I take her for walks twice a day, a short one in the morning and a long one in the evening where she gets to socialize with other dogs and people. She is not aggressive to anyone, except if someone she does not know approaches her quickly and puts a hand near her face. Usually if it is a man, she will react in a negative manner. If it is a child, not so much.

Koko’s Current Family:

My wife and I are senior citizens who love dogs. We love Koko very much and want for her to go to a very loving home where she will get the love and attention she craves. She is housetrained and not destructive.

Koko’s Favorite Toys, Foods, Activities?

Favorite toys are anything that squeaks, pieces of rope to play tug with, balls to chase, She likes rawhide bones, meat bones and will eat just about anything, she loves to go for walks and is very well behaved on a leash. I often walk her off leash in areas with no traffic. If I have treats in my pocket, she comes to me as soon as I call her.
She loves to eat a bowl of ice cubes, and that is usually the treat we give her when she goes to bed. Often, if she spots us getting ice out of the freezer, she will stand there waiting for an ice cube to eat.

Cute Koko Story:

I took a fairly long car trip with Koko last summer. It was the first time that she rode in a car for any distance. She was quite the attraction whenever we stopped for a burger and she was sitting on the back of the SUV with me sharing hamburgers. Everyone who sees her comments on how pretty and cute she is. She has her own water bottle, and people always get a kick out of her when she is on her walks when she gets a drink from her bottle.

Why is Koko Being Rehomed?

We took Koko in with the intention of rehabilitating her. We have grown to love her dearly, but there is too much conflict and commotion with the 2 dogs we already have. If Koko were our only dog, I would never even consider giving her up, but with our age and my wife’s health problems, having 3 dogs is just too much.

Koko’s Perfect Adoptive Home Will Be:

The adoptive family ideally would have someone home most of the time. Koko is very social and loves to be with her family. The family should have the time to devote to make sure Koko gets out for exercise, (She loves to go for Walks). She gets along with other dogs but would be best suited to a family with maybe 1 other dog or none. I want the family to be able to assure that Koko will be an inside dog. The only time she likes to be outside other than to do her business is when someone is outside with her. Whatever you are doing, she just wants to be present with someone. The family would have the financial means to buy quality food and provide necessary preventive and medical care. The family should love dogs and give Koko the affection that she craves giving and receiving.
